TRANSFERRING YOUR CREDITS

 

  • 51³ÉÈ˶¯Âþ will accept a maximum of 70 credits from an accredited two-year college and a maximum of 90 credits from an accredited four-year college or university1. All courses with a grade of “C-“ or better are eligible for transfer; however each academic department reserves the right to determine the transferability of coursework that relates to a student’s major. Although 51³ÉÈ˶¯Âþ does not award life-experience credit, our  details additional credits that may be assessed and recognized, such as those earned through successful completion of AP, CLEP and IB courses and examinations.

  • A maximum of 15 non-liberal arts credits may be awarded for course work taken within government agencies, industry, the armed services or other non-collegiate settings.  All transcripts should be sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admission, and once the evaluation is completed, the Office of Undergraduate Admission will email the student the evaluation. 

  • Students who are transferring from a 51³ÉÈ˶¯Âþ or CUNY two or four-year school that have satisfied a general education requirement at their previous school will have that general education met at New Paltz. Students looking to complete general education requirements at another 51³ÉÈ˶¯Âþ college may search to choose appropriate courses.  

  • Along with the 51³ÉÈ˶¯Âþ mobility website, students can explore course equivalencies from over 1,000 two and four-year colleges throughout the world on the .

    • Colleges and universities with which New Paltz has articulation agreements or academic partnerships are listed here: /acadaff/articulation/

    • In addition, 51³ÉÈ˶¯Âþ also accepts Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and College Level Examination 51³ÉÈ˶¯Âþ credits. Credit cannot be granted based on notations on your current college transcript.
  • All official transcripts need to be received by the first day of the entering semester.

*Please note: Evaluation of previous college credits will not be provided prior to application submission. Credit evaluations will only be provided to students who have applied and been accepted to the university. 

 

1 "Accredited colleges" are those that have earned, or are candidates for, accreditation by organization(s) recognized by the . CHEA-recognized organizations grant regional or institutional accreditation as well as  programmatic accreditation and national faith- and career-related accreditation. New Paltz also accepts credit from institutions accredited by the  and from independent non-profit and proprietary institutions with Board of Regents authorization to award degrees.

Credit for courses from colleges accredited by organizations other than those listed above may be evaluated for transfer purposes based on consultation with the appropriate academic department or program.
