According to the ' Coronavirus Resource Center, the COVID-19 mortality rate in the U.S. stands at 309 deaths per 100,000 people, the second highest in the world.

State-by-state, Mississippi and Arizona have the highest COVID-19 death rates (in data updated July 5). Conversely, Hawaii and Vermont have the lowest, while states like Illinois and Texas are roughly in line with the national average. There are many factors that intersect to determine a state's mortality rate from COVID-19, such as public health policies, population age or comorbidities, and vaccination.
